Tune of the Month! #29

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Okay. So, we forgot to press the “publish” button on the Mutant Surfing “Tune of the Month!” for April. Sorry about that. The tune was Step Into the Liquid by The Reckless Reefers from the CD, Over the Edge. We won’t even make some sort of excuse that we were being reckless with our reefer when we forgot to do so… that would be over the edge (groan) even for us!

Here’s where you can get a copy…

This follows the favorite tune for March, Slinky!, by Link Wray, from the CD, Link Wray: Slinky! The Epic Sessions 1958-1960.  Our crystal ball predicts the May winner will be E-Five by the Eliminators, but you should go ahead and vote for tunes you like, anyhow!

Tune of the Month! #30

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

It’s not often that Mutant Surfing can backtrack its voting audience to a specific locale, but this time would be the exception.  The favorite tune for the month of May was E-Five by The Eliminators, from their CD, Ultra Sonic Surf Guitars. A tune, no doubt, voted for heavily by frustrated S.F. Giants baseball fans with third baseman Miguel Tejada in mind!

Go get a copy for yerself…

E-Five follows April’s favorite, Step Into the Liquid, by the Reckless Reefers, from their CD, Over the Edge. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who voted! Voting is now underway (isn’t it always?) for Mutant Surfing’s most popular tune for June. So, vote early and vote often!

Tune of the Month! #28

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

For March’s favorite, our listeners have taken a few steps back in time and chosen the “pre-surf” tune, Slinky!, by the one and only Link Wray, from the appropriately named CD, Link Wray: Slinky! The Epic Sessions 1958-1960. Just one of many great tunes from another of the founding fathers of rock’n'roll. Well done listeners!

And now for our annual rant…  To no one’s surprise, the so-called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continued to embarrass themselves by failing to induct Mr. Wray yet again, for 2011. We often wonder if these aren’t the same people that make up those VH-1 Top 100 Lists and have any sort of a clue whatsoever. Check out http://inductlinkwray.com/ to see what some knowledgeable folks have to say!

We now return to our regular programming… This follows February’s “No Prize” award winner, Ahh, the Atmosphere!, by The Atomic Mosquitos, from the CD, Meltdown. Plus, just to let you know, voting for the April “Tune of the Month!” is underway. So, give those tunes you like a “thumb’s up” in that player in the upper left hand corner on our station page!

Tune of the Month! #25

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

The holiday chaos of 2010 is gone, but not forgotten. Its final echoes resound from December’s favorite tune, Lydia, by Los Super Avengers, aka Los SuperAvengers (one word, depending where you read the name) from their album, Perfect Wave or the Deep Eddy sampler, Off the Deep End. The determining factor here being the tune’s ending. The former ending abruptly, somewhat like the last episode of the Sopranos vs. the latter, with an extra 16 seconds of play time (the version we’ve been playing). Great tune either way!

Here’s a link to go check it out http://www.deepeddy.net/merch.html

This follows November’s favorite, Tamarindo from the CD of the same name, by The Beloved Invaders.

Congratulations to the winners, thanks to all who voted and, to one and all, a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Tune of the Month! #23

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

The polls are closed, the votes have been tabulated, the results are known and once again, it’s S.O.S.

“S.O.S.” in this case meaning “Some Outstanding Surf music” as opposed to California politics where, once again, it’s the Same Old, well… you know.

October’s favorite tune, as mandated by our listeners, was Bahia Del Diablo from the CD, The New Adventures Of, by The Surfin’ Gorillas.

This choice follows September’s favorite tune, Dead Highway from the CD, Henry, Call Home, by King of Hawaii.

Congratulations to the winners, thanks to all who voted and, of course, voting for November’s tune is underway (‘cuz you don’t have to wait years for elections around here)!
